Airmid was the daughter of Dian Cécht, the god of medicine, and sister to Miach, a gifted healer. Together, they tended to the wounded during the legendary Second Battle of Magh Tuiredh, a fierce clash between the Tuatha Dé Danann and their foes. Airmid’s skill with herbs and her ability to weave incantations over healing waters—like those of the Well of Sláine—brought warriors back from the brink, showcasing her mastery over life and restoration.

Her most poignant tale unfolds with tragedy and triumph. When Dian Cécht, consumed by jealousy over Miach’s superior healing abilities, slew his own son, Airmid mourned deeply at her brother’s grave. From her tears sprang a miracle: 365 healing herbs—one for every vein and joint in the body—emerged from the earth, each whispering its secrets to her. With care, Airmid gathered these plants, laying them out on her cloak to catalog their powers. But her father, still gripped by envy, scattered the herbs to the winds, ensuring their full wisdom remained known only to Airmid. This act left humanity with fragments of her knowledge, a legacy we strive to honour through our craft.
